Tomorrowland has appealed for the return of a painting that was stolen during the first weekend of this year’s festival.

Two original paintings were reportedly stolen from the Tomorrowland Restaurant during the first weekend of the Belgian festival, which took place between July 17 and 19.

The ‘Desire’ painting was stolen during the final day of weekend one, Belgian news outlet Het Nieuwsblad reported, despite security in the area.

Nightlife campaigners in Bristol are urging the local council to scrap a policy that restricts the number of nightlife spaces able to open in the city, Bristol Post reports.

They’re calling on the council to get rid of the Cumulative Impact Assessment (CIA), which is in place until March 7, 2027 – a policy that gives the council the power to overturn licensing of new clubs, pubs, and bars.

Bristol Post reports that with the CIA, the council can refuse permission for new nightlife spaces in certain areas across the city simply because there is already enough, though Bristol City Council argues that it doesn’t "automatically" mean new spaces can’t open.

A consortium of major and independent record labels has set out principles for the inclusion of AI music in global charts.

According to Music Week, Sony Music, Universal Music Group (UMG) and Warner Music Group (WMG) have joined forces with Believe, BMG, Concord, Dirty Hit, Partisan Records and more to determine chart eligibility rules for music created using AI technology.

UK producer and hardcore pioneer Bizzy B, real name Brian Johnson, has been awarded an honorary doctorate for his "contribution to music and culture".

Thank you to the University, my family, friends, and the incredible community that made this journey possible," he said on Instagram.

Pioneering synthesist and composer Patrick Gleeson has died aged 91.

In a statement shared today (July 28), the Bob Moog Foundation confirmed that Gleeson passed away on July 19 on behalf of the musician's estate.

In 1968, he worked on a Moog III modular synthesiser, establishing Different Fur recording studio alongside John Viera.

In 1976, Gleeson released his first solo album, 'Beyond the Sun', which earned him a nomination for "Best Engineered Classical Recording" at the 1977 GRAMMY Awards.

More than two decades after his last proper solo effort, Fused, longtime Black Sabbath guitarist Tommy Iommi has announced From the Dark.

Soundgarden‘s final album is now being mixed.

The iconic grunge band have long hinted they will release their final album with frontman Chris Cornell, who took his own life in 2017.

The band were writing new material with Cornell in the period leading up to his death.

By the end of 2025, the band said they were “pretty close” to finishing the album.

Now, drummer Matt Cameron has confirmed the album is currently being mixed.

Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has announced new album ‘From The Dark’ – his first solo record in over two decades.

It also marks his first new music since the death of Black Sabbath bandmate Ozzy Osbourne last July.

When we connect ahead of the release of her new album Lithic, the London-based songwriter and producer is fresh from re-painting and rearranging her studio.

"More and more, it's like the studio is my laboratory of distillation, but, really, I want to be outside," she explains, "because there's no natural light or air.

I'm thinking, 'How can I minimize the time I'm in this room to have very focused experimentation, isolated recording and arrangement, and most of the time be off somewhere else?'"

Once I met April and we started working together, my thinking changed entirely to that, but she’s also an instrumentalist and was way more advanced than me in terms of theory, so April started teaching me sheet music.

AG: Meanwhile, Matthew was teaching me how to use Ableton to create string arrangements.

We start off separate, with April in her corner of the room writing lyrics and I'm sitting here at the desk making sketches and beats.

Most of the time I've got the speakers on, so April's listening to what I'm working on and if she likes it she’ll emote and I know whether I need to continue.

April writes the most beautiful string arrangements on top of the things I do.

Let's rewind to the beginning.

The first musical instruments we know about were things like this flute.

Even in this simple flute, we see something of the identity of the player, and presume a measure of possible expressivity that equals (or even surpasses) what is heard in a lot of instruments today.

On a modern keyboard, you press a note and you might hear its velocity, but it is on pitch and has a static tone or timbre.

That kind of instrument misses the expression that was available even in our earliest instruments.

To commemorate the passing of Vladimir Kuzmin, the renown inventor of the Formanta Polivoks synthesizer, and to raise funds for his family, an independent group of musicians and instrument makers held a memorial event in Moscow. They asked me to contribute a video message about his legacy. Since Vladimir Kuzmin had previously commented on my videos, which was mind-blowing to me, I decided to tell that story. It is a bit embarrassing, since I got a few things wrong in my videos that he corrected me on. But at least I enjoyed my errors tremendously, and he did not seem to be mad about them. The Orban Stereo Synthesizer 245F turns mono audio sources into stereo, using a rather nifty comb filter. It made me horribly nauseous when I heard examples of it, so I had to get one. In use, I experienced that unpleasantness again. Until I plugged synths into it.

Sometimes I have a manual or a catalogue that helps me find out what the instruments were actually used for, but often the original purpose is lost. With the Brüel & Kjaer 7502 Digital Event Recorder, the unlikely first commercially available sampler, I was very lucky! A fun sound design technique! You don’t need 32 KG of vintage filters for this - Octaves, my plugin with @audiothing would give you a similar sound. Splitting the sound should be easy in an Ableton effect rack, or you run multiple tracks. Let me know how it works out!
